João Heliodoro

Born in Câmara de Lobos in 1979, he started training in music from the age of 11, studying the trumpet with the Banda Recreio Camponês and the conductor Quintal.

A year later, he joined the Conservatório de Música da Madeira (now the Conservatório - Escola das Artes), learning the trumpet with tutors Rosa and Peter Vig and the violin with Zita Gomes.

In 2001, he went into the Banda Militar da Madeira as a volunteer, by now he was playing the bombardon (bass tuba). He was also part of the tuba quartet.

Whilst at the Conservatório, he went up to Grade 5 in bombardon with the teacher Aquilino D. Silva and he was member of the Orquestra de Sopros do Conservatório.

He attended a Master Class in tuba/bombardon with tuba player Sergio Carolino, and a Master Class in Band Conducting directed by the conductor José Brito.

In 2005, he enrolled on the 34th Curso de Formação de Sargentos - serviço de Músicos, which he successfully completed in 2007. He had bombardon lessons with the teacher Reinaldo Guerreiro. After the course, he was placed in the Banda Militar da Madeira.

He has been deputy Bandmaster and Teacher of Music for BRC since 2001. From 2005 to 2007 he was replaced by musician
Juvenal Dantas.
